Over the past several years, Steven Short Photography has donated to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing outpatient care to patients regardless of financial circumstance. By giving our time and photography services, we have been able to donate thousands of dollars in-kind to West Texas Rehab. Here are some of the stories from this year:
Stribling Art Extravaganza (April 2016)
This annual art show donates a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of artwork to the West Texas Rehab Center. Close to 300 pieces of original art are displayed for a weekend, with an exclusive “preview party” the first opening night where people from around the area get first dibs on purchasing the artwork. To date, this art show has donated over $800,000 to West Texas Rehab Center.
A significant amount of work goes into putting on the show every year. Steven and a small team work to set the show up before opening night. Once set-up is complete, Steven takes photographs of the show for the Rehab Center to use in their marketing and to publicize the sale throughout the Concho Valley and surrounding areas. In addition, Steven has had several of his photographs featured in the show, with their sales benefiting the Rehab Center.
Spring Chicken Affair (April 2016)
Every year, volunteers serve up fried chicken meals to several thousand people who purchase tickets to the event. All food is donated, so every dollar raised goes directly to the Rehab Center to provide treatment and purchase equipment. For the past two years, Steven has photographed this event for the Rehab Center. This event has raised over $700,000 to benefit the Rehab Center.
Kid Camp (June 2016)
The Rehab Center provides a summer camp each year to children with disabilities. The camp allows kids with disabilities to enjoy summer camp and participate in activities like horse riding, crafts, swimming, and baseball. According to the Rehab Center’s website, campers are able “to enjoy traditional camp activities that have been specifically designed and adapted to special needs children,” and for some “this is the first or only camping fun they’ve ever known.” Steven provided photographs of this event, which all the parents and kids loved to see.
Frank Caraway Clay Shoot (November 2016)
The annual claybird shoot is held on the outskirts of town and hundreds of people from all over the area purchase tickets to come out and shoot sporting clays. This is one of Steven’s favorite events to photograph for the Rehab Center. His photographs are used for marketing for the event and used to raise publicity for the fundraiser. In addition, the participants love to see photographs of their teams on the course supporting West Texas Rehab Center.
Why we support WTRC
We support the West Texas Rehab Center because we believe in their mission and vision. They provide a significant amount of treatment to patients in the community, including physical therapy, hearing aids, and orthotics and prosthetics. We especially appreciate the work they do with children, many of which come from lower income families or suffer from ailments that the Rehab Center is specialized in treating. They provide services to our community in a way no other organization could.
Although Steven Short Photography is an architectural photography studio, we feel it is important to support our community, which is why we have agreed to do event photography to support West Texas Rehab Center since 2015. We spend a significant amount of time on each of these events, including the scheduling, photographing, editing, and delivering the images. Because of this, we are unable to provide free or reduced rates to any other organizations. This is why we choose to support only one charity at this time.
